HOUSTON, February 17, 2022 – Meryle Selinger Martin has been included in Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Having worked in the film industry for more than 50 years, Ms. Martin as served as a Lead Production Accountant and Controller with ABC TV, NBC Universal, Warner Bros TV, and 20th Century Fox TV. Prior to working in TV, she worked for United Artists and Orion Pictures as their representative on such classics as “Robocop,” “Robocop 2,” and “Hair.” She also worked on such legendary films as “The Last Movie,” directed by Dennis Hopper and filmed in Peru, and “Raging Bull,” directed by Martin Scorsese. Her biggest accomplishment was being the first woman to hold an executive position as Director of Budgeting and Estimating in a major studio from 1980 -1984.
In this capacity, she is responsible for budgeting and estimating for her projects, including the approval and signing of checks, and maintaining a staff. Ms. Martin hires employees for her department and collaborates with the studio throughout the process.
Ms. Martin originally intended to become a dancer and attended Baylor University as a theater arts major. She then moved to Los Angeles from Waco, Texas to attend the Pasadena Playhouse for a year. However, she realized the work as a dancer was not sustainable for her and changed course. Through an acquaintance she was hired on a feature film working as production coordinator and bookkeeper. This started her new career, and she knew this was her road in life. She developed an immense passion for the work which she continues today.
Committed to holding herself with confidence in pursuit of her goals, Ms. Martin credits her success to her ability to collaborate with others effectively, while taking care to advocate for herself. Fervent about her work, she plans to continue contributing her skills to the television and film industry for the foreseeable future.
